Shaan, aka Shantanu Mukherjee, was born on 30th September 1972 in Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh, in a Bengali family. His father was music director and composer Manas Mukherjee, and his sister Sagarika is also a singer.

Before debuting in his first chartbuster, ‘Tanha Dil’, Shaan used to sing jingles for ads, after which he began to sing remixes and cover versions. Shaan’s official singing career kicked-off when he signed up with Magnasound recording company, along with his sister Sagarika, and recorded a few successful albums, including the hit album Naujawan followed by Q – Funk, of which a million copies were sold. 

Shaan pop song Loveology was also a huge hit among the audience. He won the MTV Asia Award for Favorite Artist India for his solo album Tanha Dil. After carving a niche for himself in the indie-pop industry, there was no looking back for Shaan as he went on to become one of the most versatile and coveted singers of Bollywood. His voice was so melodious and unique that he was the most sought-after Bollywood singer for the top male actors. 

Some of his chartbusters include ‘Musu musu Haasi’, ‘Behti hawa sa tha woh’, ‘Chand sifarish’, ‘Dus bahane’, ‘Main aisa kyun hoon’, ‘Ladki Kyun’, Bin puche mera naam or pata’,’ jab se tere naina’ and many more blockbuster songs. However, he got selective with his choice of songs recently, and that’s why we get to hear his melodious voice less these days.

Shaan has been quite active in other aspects of music as well that keep him connected with his fans. In an interview with the Hindustan Times, he said, “I believe in living life to the fullest and as a result, I love to try my hand at everything that I get: be it judging, coaching new singers, composing, acting, all of it. Because we get one life and don’t want to give up any chance to indulge in something new that’s the reason you will find me everywhere”.
